About the job

About the Role

Help put a price on nature. Spend three months at the heart of a new asset class, working on the models and investor conversations that decide how capital flows into landscape restoration.

As our Investment Intern, you'll help turn environmental ambition into investable reality, building the financial models, gathering the market insight, and supporting the investor relationships that move money into landscape-scale restoration. You'll be part of the Oxygen Capital team as well as working directly with the people running our estates, translating what happens on the ground into something a pension fund, family office or institutional investor can commit to with confidence.

This is a role where you will shape real decisions from the start. Your models will inform how we invest a portfolio worth hundreds of millions, and your research will shape which markets we move into next.

About You

Environment

  • A love for the natural world and rural environment, and a commitment to its ecological restoration.
  • Genuinely curious about how finance can scale environmental restoration, and excited by the idea that the two belong together.
  • Fascinated by the emerging nature-based markets (carbon, biodiversity, nutrient, water).

Impact

  • Comfortable with numbers, models and spreadsheets, and always looking to improve your technical skills.
  • Rigorous with detail, because accurate models give our team and our investors the confidence to back nature at scale.
  • Excellent communication skills. You are able to transform a complex model into a clear story that helps investors, colleagues and partners make confident decisions.

Adventure

  • Excited by ambiguity. Much of what we're valuing has never been valued before, and there is no rulebook.
  • Happy to get out of the spreadsheet and onto the land to understand what the numbers actually represent.
  • Enthusiastic to experiment with AI to come up with innovative solutions to complex modelling and valuation problems.

Together

  • Confident working alongside investors and estate teams alike, and at ease in both rooms.
  • Collaborative and generous with ideas. You make the people around you sharper.
  • And let's be honest, you have to be really kind too. Sharing snacks on long journeys or a packed lunch in the driving rain is mandatory!

We believe in recruiting exceptional people and creating opportunities that allow you to do incredible things. You don't need to tick every box above, and you don't need to look or sound a certain way to belong here. We are committed to building a genuinely diverse team drawn from across the country, with a wide range of lived and learnt experiences. It doesn't matter what point in your career you are at, what school you went to, or whether you have a degree or not. We want amazing people with a desire to make a difference.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Modelling:

  • Build and refine models for Natural Capital projects, bringing together ecological data, crediting methodologies and commercial assumptions to inform investment decisions.

Portfolio Tracking:

  • Compare what our estates actually deliver against what we forecast, from tree survival and credit issuance to prices achieved, feeding these learnings back into the models.

Market and Policy Research:

  • Track pricing, policy and demand signals across nature-based markets to identify risk and new revenue opportunities.

Due Diligence Readiness:

  • Help keep our portfolio investor-ready, maintaining the data, evidence and analysis behind every estate so we can answer investor and partner questions quickly and with confidence.

Investor Engagement:

  • Help prepare investor reports, pitch materials and responses to investor queries, working with the Oxygen Capital team and our external partners.

Fundraising Support:

  • Contribute to the materials and analysis behind live fundraising processes.

About Us

We're building the UK's first genuine Natural Capital portfolio: acquiring large landscapes, restoring them at scale, and proving that nature recovery can create real, investable value.

Across our 12 estates, that means using restoration to create premium natural capital products like carbon credits, biodiversity units, and nature credits while also exploring regenerative agriculture, renewable energy and ecotourism experiences (you can check them out at Oxygen Escapes).

In just five years, we've grown to managing over 50,000 acres and a valuation of hundreds of millions of pounds. By 2030, our ambition is to have 250,000 acres under restoration while to connect helping millions more acres for nature.

Our mission is simple: prove that restoring ecosystems can not only deliver transformative environmental and social impact, but also financial returns.

Our work hasn't gone unnoticed. In 2022, we were named Start-Up of the Year at the Business Leader South West Awards, followed by Team of the Year at the 2023 Edie Awards and our nature funding agreement with Triodos won ESG Deal of the Year at the 2024 Insider South West Dealmakers Awards. Our founder and CEO, Dr Rich Stockdale, is featured in the ENDS Power List as one of the top 100 UK environmental professionals driving significant impact.

Key Information

  • Location: Remote (UK-based), with travel to our estates and to investor meetings
  • Salary: £26,500 pro rata
  • Closing Date: Monday 2nd November
