The Jefferies’ Equities Sales & Trading Summer Analyst Program provides the cohort with the unique opportunity to gain insight into a global, client-focused investment bank and experience an entrepreneurial environment where employees have the opportunity to make an immediate impact and are rewarded for performance.
You’ll be exposed to Jefferies’ full range of products and leading industry expertise. In addition to the day-to-day responsibilities, Summer Analysts are encouraged to think creatively, offer their input, and add value to the team from day one. As with everyone at Jefferies, Summer Analysts are expected to pursue their projects with excellence, a collaborative spirit, and with the highest levels of integrity.
Summer Analysts will focus on real-life on the job learning, with colleagues serving as both instructors and mentors. Each of them will also have the opportunity to review their professional development and receive detailed feedback on their performance, during various stages of the program, in addition to at the end of the term.
Students in their penultimate year of university with an anticipated graduation date of October 2027 - July 2028 may apply to our Summer Analyst Program.
Jefferies Equities Sales & Trading
Our Equities department is a significant provider of liquidity, execution and underwriting expertise. Summer Interns will have the opportunity to collaborate across different divisions of our Sales & Trading platform – including Research Sales, Cash Trading, Derivatives, Prime Brokerage, Electronic Trading and Desk Strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Support traders in executing client orders across equities and related products while monitoring market conditions, liquidity dynamics, news flow, and macroeconomic developments that impact client activity and execution outcomes.
- Analyze trading activity, execution performance, and market trends to generate insights that support client discussions, execution strategies, and market commentary.
- Assist with trade lifecycle management, including trade booking, reconciliation, exception resolution, and coordination with Operations and other support functions.
- Partner closely with traders and sales professionals to support client flow management, market updates, and day-to-day desk activities
- Develop an understanding of market structure, trading venues, order types, execution algorithms, and best execution principles across regional markets.
- Build and maintain analytical tools, dashboards, and automated workflows using Excel, Python, AI-enabled technologies, or similar tools to enhance market monitoring, execution analysis, and desk efficiency.
- Collaborate with colleagues across Sales, Research, Operations, Compliance, and Technology on projects that improve trading processes, workflow automation, execution outcomes, and the overall client experience.
Desired Skills
- Strong academic record, with a minimum GPA of 3.6 (or equivalent), and progress toward an undergraduate degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated interest in financial markets, electronic and agency execution, market structure, and client trading activity.
- Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret market data and identify actionable insights.
- Proficiency in Excel; experience with Python, VBA, SQL, AI tools, or other analytical technologies is an advantage.
- Interest in applying data analytics and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to enhance decision-making and operational efficiency.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams, regions, and functions.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, intellectually curious, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment; additional language capabilities would be considered advantageous.
